The Benefits Of Dentures
- Affordable & covered by insurance – Dentures are the cheapest way to restore a full arch of missing teeth, and are much more affordable than alternatives like dental implants. In addition, dentures are usually at least partially covered by insurance, which makes them a great choice if you’re on a budget. However, we recommend contacting your insurer to learn more about your coverage before scheduling a denture fitting.
- Fast results – It usually takes less than a month to create your full set of permanent dentures, and you’ll get a set of temporary teeth to wear while we fit and customize the fit of your dentures.
- Eat, smile & speak with confidence – If you’re missing many of your natural teeth, you may have trouble eating your favorite foods and speaking clearly to other people. You might also feel awkward or uncomfortable when smiling or laughing. With dentures in Oak Park from Dr. Murphy, you can get your life back to normal.
- Improve your self-esteem – Damaged, decayed, or missing teeth can harm your self-image and self-confidence. But with your new set of teeth, you won’t have to feel nervous or uncomfortable about your appearance. You can smile brightly and feel great about how you look.
- Dental Sealants. If our team notices any of your teeth that are at risk of tooth decay, we can provide simple plastic sealants that cover these endangered teeth. The sealants stop bacteria or plaque buildup and decrease the chance of tooth decay.

Denture Fitting Process
Wondering how the denture fitting process works? After you’ve had any necessary teeth extracted, you’ll schedule a consultation with Dr. Murphy. He will take impressions of your gums, and make a mold of your bite.
Then, a dental lab will use this information to make a set of test dentures. You’ll be sent home with a temporary set of dentures, and you’ll come back when your first set of test dentures arrives at our office.
Next, Dr. Murphy will check the fit of your test denture, note any adjustments that need to be made, and send it back to the dental lab. This process may be repeated several times, until your dentures fit perfectly.
Once the fit is perfect, your final set of dentures will be sent to our office. You’ll come in to pick them up and get instructions on their care from Dr. Murphy. Then, you’ll walk out of our office with a brand new smile.
Caring For Dentures
Dentures do require some special care. You need to rinse your dentures and gums off after every meal to prevent plaque buildup. You should also brush your gums and dentures once per day to keep them clean. At night, your dentures will need to be removed, and soaked in denture cleaner. Denture cleaner keeps your dentures from drying out, and also helps kill bacteria and cleans your dentures.
Dr. Murphy will provide you a set of comprehensive instructions after you’ve been fitted for a set of dentures, which you should follow to keep your dentures and your mouth healthy.
